On-site Refurbishment

It is not in every situation that a failing or failed AHU needs to be replaced. For over two decades, AirCraft Air Handling has been assisting customers across the UK with cost-effective solutions to undertake the on-site refurbishment of failing, inefficient or obsolete AHUs of varying types and brands.

Top-line cost savings

In today’s budget-and sustainability-conscious market, refurbishing existing plant can bring many benefits that can make purchasing decisions easier when comparing capital expenditure over maintenance budgets. The major benefit is, of course, cost savings. Also, the work on a refurbishment can be done in-situ, removing the need for hiring cranes, lifting gear or road closures, which can often be needed when removing or installing a large roof-top AHU.

In virtually all cases, AirCraft Air Handling can flat pack the refurbished or replacement components and deliver them to site on pallets, in package sizes that allow for transporting to the upper floors via a building’s goods or passenger lift. This allows for the AHU refurbishment to be undertaken with limited or no disruption, which is important in cases where the building is occupied and operational.

Extending an AHU’s lifecycle

The average in-service life of a commercial AHU is approximately 20 years, when an AHU refurbishment is undertaken that retains the existing casework and frame this can add up to 15 years to the unit’s service life assuming appropriate levels of maintenance are maintained.

Performance

AirCraft Air Handling engineers can refurbish or replace failed or failing AHU components that have a direct effect on performance and energy efficiency, including:

  • Coils
  • Controls
  • Dampers
  • Fans
  • Filters
  • Heaters
  • Thermal Wheels

Compliance

Depending upon what the AHU was originally designed and manufactured for, it may be that it is not fully compliant with today’s BS, EN & ISO standards. A refurbishment can address this. AirCraft Air Handling can help with advice and recommendations relating to the latest construction and operational standards.
